The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) showed it can perform a miracle by causing a rainstorm without any nimbus clouds in the skies.
Out of the blue (forget the pun), FDC secretary general Nathan Nandala Mafabi ordered the dismissal of Ingrid Turinawe, Winnie Babihuga and Darius Tweyambe from the party for violating its constitution to run as Independent candidates.
Ingrid, a former head of the women’s league and national mobiliser, lost the Rukungiri Municipality MP primary race to Dr Wallen Nuwagaba. She protested her defeat, citing rigging and accused some party leaders of side-lining key members in favour of upstarts. She then decided to go it as an Independent.

Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) die-hards, who were dismissed from the party for contesting as Independents in the forthcoming elections in Rukungiri District, have accused the secretary general, Mr Nathan Nandala Mafabi, of unfair dismissal and “killing” the party.
In a December 7 letter addressed to the Rukungiri FDC chairperson, Ms Virginia Kyarugahe, Mr Mafabi fired the party’s national political mobiliser, Ms Ingrid Turinawe, Mr Darius Tweyambe, a mayoral contestant, and Ms Winnie Babihuga.

Dr Kizza Besigye’s only direct relationship with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) at present is as mobiliser for Rukungiri District, and it is at this very spot where an earthquake shaking the Opposition party has originated in the middle of an election campaign.
And the ongoing election campaign is not an ordinary one as far as FDC is concerned – it is the first time in the life of the party when FDC is not seen as the principal contender to wrestle power from President Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
