A three-month-old baby and a woman thought to be in her early 30s were killed while more than 30 other passengers were injured in another bus crash on Eastern Cape roads.
The bakkie involved in a truck smash that left six Eastern Cape schoolchildren dead and others injured on Tuesday was not a contracted scholar transportation vehicle. This was revealed by provincial transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose on Thursday. DispatchLIVE (http://www.dispatchlive.co.za) reported this week that the children roughly 14 to 17 years old and pupils at Ndamase Senior Secondary School in Ngqeleni outside Mthatha had been on their way home at about 3pm when tragedy struck.
Teachers and parents scoured a horrific accident scene on Tuesday evening in search of clues to identify the six pupils killed when a truck smashed into a scholar transport bakkie. The children – roughly 14 to 17 years old and pupils at Ndamase Senior Secondary School in Ngqeleni outside Mthatha – were on their way home at about 3pm when tragedy struck on the T30 road not far from the school.
The parents of one of the Dale College Primary pupils who died in a tragic accident said they were experiencing the worst kind of pain. Tony and Nosipho Ukekwe stood in front of mourners at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday in Qonce where the funeral service for their son Chinedum Chonga Ukekwe was held.
Inganathi Nzima,13, who died when a Dale College Boys Primary School bus crashed on the way back from a hockey match, was laid to rest next to his grandmother's grave in Ginsberg cemetery in Qonce on Thursday.
