MMC Moerane takes Kleena Joburg reloaded back to the inner city Page Content ​More than 100 student volunteers from the University of Johannesburg, Doornfontein Campus, braved the rain and cold to participate in the #KleenaJoburg campaign.  The clean-up took place on Saturday, 08 May 2021, in the inner city and is aimed at transforming the City into a clean and safe environment for residents. Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Infrastructure Services Cllr Mpho Moerane was accompanied by the MD of Pikitup, Bulelwa Njingolo and other senior managers of the City. Cllr Moerane led from the front, going from street to street and leaving them cleaner. Officials and volunteers from local communities spruced up identified hotspots on King George, Wanderers and De Villiers streets in the inner city of Johannesburg.

The mayor was accompanied by MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Cllr Mpho Moerane, MMC for Public Safety, Cllr Mally Mokoena, Speaker of Council, Cllr Nonceba Molwele and hundreds of volunteers. Various City entities, including Pikitup, JMPD, Joburg Water and Joburg Roads Agency, took part in the multi-disciplinary effort to clean up Ward 59 which includes Rissik Street, Claim Street and Wolmarans. Mayor Makhubo called on residents to look after their environment.  “We ve started a campaign in December last year to get our city clean. But it s not just about Pikitup cleaning up. Water restrictions still in place despite rising dam levels ​ The City of Johannesburg is still implementing water restrictions despite reports that water levels at the Vaal Dam have increased by 3.5% to 47.58% on Friday, 20 December 2019.   This is according to the new Member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment, Infrastructure Services Cllr Mpho Moerane, who urges residents to continue to use water sparingly.   “Estimates are that the dam levels might rise up to 50%, but the Vaal Dam was sitting at a much higher level same time last year.   “We continue to strongly urge the City of Joburg residents to use water sparingly. Please do not water gardens or wash cars using hose pipes. Every drop counts, says MMC Moerane.
