The Newfoundland and Labrador government has acquired an unsightly but valuable plot of downtown St. John's land in order to expand the footprint of the National War Memorial ahead of the site's 100th anniversary on July 1.
About 80 members of Newfoundland and Labrador’s largest union gathered outside Confederation Building in St. John's on Wednesday morning to protest the provincial government's consideration of a private-public partnership to build two new sections of divided highway.
The provincial and federal governments have announced $4.3 million in funding that will be distributed to eight communities to add or reinforce protection measures like armor stone, breakwaters and sea walls.
