voters you talk to, he s fundamentally mislead reading what they like about him. he was elected to be a doer and also in the succession of presidencies that have been politics of conflict. and what people have been looking for is politics of result. the right? there haven t been enough results for a lot of these voters. he is fundamentally misreading these voters. they want him to do something. the this isn t the thing they want him to do. the they don t benefit from his grudge with the press. i suspect part of what happened was, yesterday, from what i understand, it was an infrastructure event, well, infrastructure is why a lot of working class democrats voted for him. right? there was nothing about infrastructure. the he went out there with a bee in his bonnet and wanted to folk
of an unease that has been around those who are close to the president. he, of course, did something they did not expect with his remarks, with the tone of his remarks, with the combative nature of it. that was not something that was planned. it put some of those around him really off of what they had expected was going to be a positive infrastructure event that might have turned the corner from what had happened saturday. one of the people that i ve talked to today through our communications has been saying that not only stl the surprise about what the president did but this discomfort about what should be the next step. then you have someone like an outside voice michael cone who has been a lawyer and spokesperson for the president at times before he took office who said he felt the need to defend himself against accusations that by being close to the president that he might be a racist. he said the president has a good heart. so you have people on defense and people uncomfortable. n
staff? we had your reporting and others of your colleagues saying that they were surprised and shocked by the president s comments, he was supposed to speak, doing an infrastructure event, that got drowned out. if they re shocked, what are they doing about it? well, andrea, when the president doesn t follow the plan as he did not yesterday, that does put the staff in a position of having to figure out how to react and respond to it. today we had very little from the white house except behind the scenes people talk ing about the discomfort they feel, and the the difficulty in dealing with these issues, which are so volatile and charged and heated. at the same time, we have not heard from the president on this today. he did tweet about heather heyer, calling her a beautiful and an incredible person and she will be remembered by all. so he sort of reached out about the memorial. but we expect in the next couple of hours the president will be leaving here at trump tower, i can tell you
media wasn t spending more time talking about the crime in chicago and spending so much time focussed on what happened in charlottesville over the weekend. this is a controversial figure. again, the president not hesitating to retweet something by him. finally, he just retweeted an article by fox news about the fact that he s considering pardoning the former arizona sheriff. he s a lightning rod, someone who was convicted for contempt, for failing to follow a judge s order to stop detaining people because he thought they were in the country illegally. bottom line, this is going to set up yet another day of potentially very difficult headlines for president trump as he tries to turn the page. he s going to be holding an infrastructure event. this comes after hundreds of people were out protesting overnight. kristen welker at trump tower. we remember the president a few weeks ago tweeted out a meme
okay, but i think this is a turning point. you know what he echoed yesterday? he just echoed talk radio. they mauved to the statue argument. the erasing history argument, and hey, they re just as violent on the left. is that what his base is hearing? is that what he s being first of all, i think one of the things i say his base. i don t want to call it a conservative base. that is a very, very stall small piece of the american social fabric and the electorate. and that is not actually his base. no, i think the conservative much movement is trying to figure out how to excise themselves. get these guys out of here. i think for senators in particular, but for congressional republicans, right now, they are beginning to worry about their agenda, because with this man in charge, there is no agenda. i don t even know by the way, remember what today was? this was an infrastructure
