Wyoming’s U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis has been picked to serve as “ranking member” on two Senate subcommittees this year, a significant leadership role for a freshman member of the Senate. Lummis will serve as ranking member on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee’s Subcommittee on Fisheries, Water and Wildlife and as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Space and Science in the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. A ranking member is the highest ranking and, usually, longest serving minority member of a committee and works with the committee chairman to set priorities and agendas. Lummis said she was honored to serve as the top Republican for two subcommittees, particularly two dealing with issues with such importance to Wyoming.
