The national picture: Deaths from Covid-19 in Wales have now passed 3,000, with a further 38 reported on Friday by PHW. It takes the total number of deaths from Covid-19 in Wales to 3,011. There were 2,801 new cases reported, taking the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 117,367. The case rate for Wales has jumped to 562.2 cases per 100,000 for the past seven days, up from 530.2 on Thursday. This follows the publishing of the delayed case results. Meanwhile, every intensive care bed in one of Wales health boards is being taken by Covid patients. Dr Nick Lyons said there are now about 500 coronavirus patients across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board s three hospitals in Llantrisant, Merthyr and Bridgend.
There have been 52 deaths with coronavirus reported in Wales today (December 17) Wales is set for a third lockdown as Alert Level 4 measures are to be introduced from Boxing Day. First Minister Mark Drakeford confirmed the move which will see non-essential shops, gyms, hairdressers, hospitality businesses and holiday accommodations close. The restrictions, equivalent to a firebreak or full lockdown, permit only essential travel, but schools, places of worship and parks will remain open. Indoor and outdoor attractions would be closed but wedding ceremonies and funerals could continue with limited numbers and without a reception or wake. Some measures will come into force on Christmas Eve with all non-essential retail, including close contact services and all leisure and fitness centres forced to close from the end of the day.

Public Health Wales updates coronavirus data – “no missing results” and “no delays in people getting their results”

Public Health Wales has updated public coronavirus data after a systems upgrade was completed.
Last week they trailed the systems update, and said that public reporting would be lagging until that was completed.
Today that data has been added in, resulting in around 11,000 cases across Wales now being historically added to recent local authority data. There has been similar lagging data in the past with figures updating previous days information (one example here from earlier this year) however they have usually been in the single figure range.
People are still getting their test results despite issues with the reporting of coronavirus cases PEOPLE in Wales who have been tested for coronavirus in recent days are receiving their results, Public Health Wales is stressing. Essential and planned maintenance on data systems for the NHS in Wales last week led to what Public Health Wales yesterday called significant under-reporting of Lighthouse Laboratory testing . Lighthouse Labs are part of the network of labs that process coronavirus test results. Around 11,000 coronavirus cases not yet included in official figures as a result, are set to be added later. But the issue has not affected the delivery of results to those who have taken tests.
Wales Adds 11,468 New CCP Virus Cases in One Day Due to Backlog
And It s Going Back To Full Lockdown After Christmas
Wales reported 11,468 new cases of CCP virus on Thursday, according to the latest update of Public Health Wales’ (PHW) surveillance dashboard.
The large influx of reported cases is due to a backlog of test results caused by a system upgrade that took place on Dec. 11.
“As Public Health Wales has indicated previously, the data delay over the weekend was part of essential maintenance for the wider Welsh NHS led by the NHS Wales Informatics Service,” PHW said on Thursday in a statement.
