Tigers first full workout is Feb. 22: Details on spring training, safety protocols

Baseball, at least initially, will look very much like it did last year.
Players, staffers and media will be separated into different tiers. Mixing will be strictly regulated. Testing and masking requirements will be rigorous. Some of the strange rule changes from 2020 will be brought back for another year.
But the season
will start on time.
Detroit Tigers’ pitchers and catchers will hold their first official workout on Feb. 17. The rest of the club will join them five days later for the first full squad workout on Feb. 22.

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued to fill vacancies among their training staff earlier this afternoon.
In a tweet sent around 1:30 p.m., it was announced that Tony Leo will be the team s new Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 2021 season. Leo spent the 2020 season as the Infection Control Prevention Coordinator for the Oakland Athletics. Prior to that, he spent 23 seasons working for the Minnesota Twins, two of which were spent as their Head Athletic Trainer.
General Manager Ben Cherington also made several additions to the Pirates front office on Thursday, including Rafael Fritas as the Major League Head Athletic Trainer, Terence Brannic as the team s Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, and other positions among the operations staff.
