The Congress on Friday strongly opposed the idea of "one nation, one election", terming it "undemocratic", and demanded that the committee formed by the government to examine the issue of simultaneous elections be dissolved immediately.
He requested former president Ram Nath Kovind, who heads the panel, "not to allow his persona and the office of the former president of India to be abused by the Union government to subvert the constitution and parliamentary democracy in this country".
'I also incidentally suspect that the instant design to subvert the basic structure of the Indian constitutional arrangements is aimed at converting the polity of ours into a presidential system'
