Electronic and smartphone manufacturing alone will contribute $ 1 trillion by 2025: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of elecommunications and IT. - BusinessLine× Union Minister of Law and Justice, Electronics and Information Technology and Communications Ravi Shankar Prasad stated that there is a robust future for the manufacturing of electronics and smartphone sector in India during the ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) Foundation Week.
Speaking at the event, he said: “We have come a long way from the just two factories in 2014 to 250 manufacturing factories today. By proper scaling of the manufacturing, the sector alone can contribute $1 trillion towards fulfilling the dream of achieving the $5 trillion economy.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the global narrative has changed from “Why India” to “Why not India” as a result of reforms that were introduced by his government. The prime minister said reforms like ease in labour laws, reducing red-tapism and introducing competitive tax rates have contributed in this change.
While delivering the keynote address at Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India’s Foundation Week 2020, he made a pitch for his government’s flagship “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, or self-reliant India, initiative. “Our challenge is not just to become Atmanirbhar, but to attain that goal as early as we can,” he said. “The new India is reliant on its own abilities and resources and is marching towards the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

In a major development for the road travellers in India, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced on Thursday (December 17) that India would be tollbooth free in a span of two years.
In his address at the ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) Foundation Week, the minister said that there would also be a Global Positioning System (GPS) based toll collection.
