The government has issued a 30-day ultimatum for businesses to renew their trademark applications in line with new rules.
In a special edition of the
Industrial Property Journal, the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) - the parastatal charged with administering industrial property rights - stated that trademark owners that would not have filed a renewal application for their marks will be removed.
The period was open from February 15, 2021, and will lapse on April 2021.The agency had earlier published information on a number of updated trademark rules.
The Industrial Property Institute of Kenya has issued a special edition of the Industrial Property Journal, in which it has announced that trademark owners that have not filed to renew their mark will be publicly notified. Further, it has listed more than 2,400 expired marks, which it intends to remove from the trademark register.
