Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], April 8 (ANI): The Handloom Department of Jammu and Kashmir and the Industrial Cooperatives (INDUSCOS) wing of the Handicraft Department organised a program on Wednesday at Soura in Srinagar to raise awareness among cooperatives, artisans and the general public about various government schemes.
The schemes are being implemented by the department for the upliftment of the artisans and for promoting Kashmiri handicrafts.
The camp, attended by a large number of artisans, aimed at providing information about various initiatives including financial schemes undertaken by the department and provide advice on how to avail benefits of these schemes.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has yesterday commenced a two-day workshop for its Cooperative Department on their draft Cooperate Development Policy Document at the ministry’s conference hall, Youyi Building in Freetown.
The workshop is geared towards organizing viable and well-structured cooperatives that can contribute to economic growth and the theme for the draft policy was “Promoting Cooperative Societies for Sustainable Development.
In his keynote address, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Edward Sandy said the ministry has been waiting for this time, stating that as partners that was the first time he has worked with a larger membership of cooperatives across the country.

On the spot registration certificates were issued to at least thirty cooperative self help groups. The participants in the camps were informed about the schemes with special focus on credit card scheme for individual artisans, financial support for Industrial Cooperatives, state award scheme and about the marketing of the products.
The speakers stressed on the benefits that can be availed by the groups once they come under the ambit of cooperatives and strengthen and extend partnership between themselves.
Joint Director Handloom Kashmir, Publicity cum Exhibition Officer, Deputy Registrar INDUSCOS Kashmir were present on the occasion, besides the camp was attended by a large number of artisan folk from the adjoining areas including Anchar.
