BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five Tigers competed at 2022 Indoor National Championships on Friday, as they each recorded one of the top 16 marks in the nation this season in their respective events. ACC Champion Daniel Cope challenged the weight throw, while Aman Thornton competed in the men’s 800 meter. Devon Brooks, Lafranz Campbell and Giano Roberts were three of the 16 entrants in the 60 meter hurdles. Cope, who two weeks ago threw a Jamaican national record 22.28 meter weight throw, finished 15th nationally with a throw that flew 20.71 meters. Thornton got off to a hot start and led the 800 meter after the first of four laps, but was forced to remove himself from the race due to injury. Roberts was the lone Tiger in the first flight of the 60 meter hurdles, where his 7.77 was good for fifth. Campbell and Brooks crossed the line neck and neck at 7.72 and finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Roberts’s mark earned him 11th nationally, as all three came up just short of qualificat
Fresh off her fastest 4x400-meter relay leg at the Tufts Invitational and All-Centennial Conference First Team selections in the 400 and 4x400, senior Ashley Tyburski has put together a more than impressive senior campaign for the women’s track and field team.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Irish could not have asked for a much better start to the opening day of the 2021 NCAA Indoor National Championships on Thursday, picking up two First Team All-American honors on the women’s side with impressive performances from Rachel Tanczos and Jadin O’Brien.
The Irish sit atop the standings in first place after the first day of competition, recording 13 points on the day.
Tanczos earned national runner-up status in the weight throw and nearly took home the gold in the event. The senior posted a season-best mark of 23.24m (76-3) to match the best mark recorded in the NCAA this season heading into the final round. However, Louisville’s Makenli Forrest barely edged Tanzos on her final throw, recording a distance of 23.26m to win the event.
