GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Sunday launched a social and financial security scheme for women who lost their husbands due to Covid-19, offering one-time financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh to 176 beneficiaries on the first day.
“The scheme will cover those who have lost their husbands in Covid-19 pandemic,” chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, while launching the ‘Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme’ at a programme held at Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium here.
The government, however, has laid out conditions that in order to claim entitlement under the scheme, the beneficiary’s husband should have died of Covid and the beneficiary must belong to a low-income group with an annual income up to Rs 5 lakh.
