From a consistent rise in the number of tigers at Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) and rescuing the king cobras in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh to minimising man-animal conflict across the State, the Forest Department has been focussing on several areas to address wildlife conservation.

On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, scheduled on March 3, officials from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) will conduct a workshop on various topics such as Biodiversity of Butterflies, Reptiles Awareness Session and Wildlife at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, for students from schools and colleges at the zoo on that day.
IGZP curator Nandani Salaria said that the programme is intended to create awareness on the importance of wildlife and the various interactions between humans and wildlife. She also said that the workshop will be followed by a quiz and a zoo tour. The top three winners of the quiz will be awarded exciting prizes.

The sprawling 625 acres of Indira Gandhi Zoological Park has been witnessing a flurry of activities. And for a change, it s not just the picnickers who are keeping the zoo staff engaged. Post pandemic, Visakhapatnam zoo has introduced a series of public engagement programmes to promote zoo as a conservation education centre. In November it kick-started its guided bird watching walks. The programme was an instant hit with the small teams of participants who not only got a glimpse of the ornithological delights of the region, but also went home armed with information on the over 100 species of birds in its free-range.

It’s not due to bird flu, says animal husbandry official
Spotting of five dead crows on the Collectorate premises here on Monday created panic as word spread that the birds died all of a sudden. The incident caused a concern in the wake of the outbreak of bird flu in some States.
The dead crows were found in a dry drain behind the main building of the Collector’s office.
The crows died in quick succession, according to sources. On getting information, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry D. Ramakrishna, Dr. S. Nagamani and a team from the department went to the spot and collected samples.
