Plan to kill husband with poisoned goat stew

WHEN a meal of poisoned stewed goat and rice failed to kill him, Anil Jadoo’s best friend beat him with a piece of wood on the head.
Geewan Pardassie killed Jadoo for $800 in 2006. He had been paid by Jadoo’s common-law wife, Kareen Ramlal.
At first, Ramlal and her mother Ramdaye planned to kill Jadoo by feeding him the meal, which the mother laced with the deadly insecticide Lanate, also known as malathion.
Ramlal discussed killing Jadoo, the father of her then six-year-old daughter, with Pardassie numerous times because he was abusive to her.

Mother, daughter, friend admit to killing St Augustine man

A mother, her daughter and a family friend on Wednesday pleaded guilty to killing a St Augustine man in 2006.
Gewan Pardassie, Ramdaye Ramlal and her daughter Kareen Ramlal appeared virtually before Justice Hayden St Clair-Douglas during a virtual hearing from the Golden Grove and the Women’s prison.
They are charged with killing Anil Jadoo at his Deokiesingh Street, St Augustine home on May 3, 2006.
Jadoo’s body was found by a relative. He died from blunt force trauma to the skull and brain, according to autopsy reports.
The facts of the murder were not read out at Wednesday’s hearing since prosecutors Indira Chinebas and Ambay Ramkelawan said they needed instructions to discontinue a conspiracy to murder charge against the three accused.
DPP Roger Gaspard
THE LAW Association (LATT) has written to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC, asking for his views on virtual hearings.
The association is seeking the DPP s advice on the covid19 emergency practice directions issued by the Chief Justice, which took effect on December 1.
The practice directions put a restriction on in-person hearings except in special circumstances for the rest of the year. They also suspended all jury trials until December 31.
In its letter to Gaspard, the association said it noted concerns raised by members over the “challenges posed by virtual hearings concerning the trial process.
