After significantly slowing work because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ contractor recently resumed building a hotel at Four Winds South Bend Casino. The band in September 2019 announced plans for a 23-story hotel, saying construction would begin by the end of that year and finish in two years. Ground was broken that same month, then halted in March. With the 10-month delay, the hotel’s projected finish date is unclear. The Pokagon Band declined to comment Thursday. The hotel would be two stories shorter than South Bend’s tallest structure, the Liberty Tower, and at 317 rooms, would be the city’s largest hotel, surpassing the Doubletree downtown’s 291 rooms. Crews are now building the foundation.
