India will send at least 45 million vaccine doses to Pakistan as part of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation, or GAVI. The vaccine agreed upon is Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine that is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India. The first batch is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan in the middle of March.
All charges of the vaccine, from manufacture to delivery, have been waived off by GAVI as part of the initiative to provide free vaccines to poor countries. While the first batch of AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine is expected to land in Pakistan in mid-March, the remaining doses will arrive in waves within June.

Continuing with ambitious Vaccine Maitri programme as the world s largest vaccine maker, India yesterday (7 February) also dispatched two consignments of Covishield vaccines to Barbados and Dominica from Mumbai,

It should be noted that Barbados Prime Minister (PM) Mia Mottley has also penned a letter of gratitude to PM Narendra Modi which reads, I trust that you are well and safe. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said more than once that he wants India to become the pharmacy of the world. One of his motives has been that the vaccine should be available at affordable prices because we re seeing how western companies sell medicines at very, very high prices. Whereas India is able to produce them at minimal costs and this is a boon for the developing world.
