Sensex ends 437 pts higher, Nifty above 13,600; IT stocks extend rally

Key domestic indices ended with strong gains on Wednesday, supported by rally in IT stocks. The Nifty closed above the crucial 13,600 mark. All the sectoral indices on the NSE ended in the green. Positive global cues boosted sentiment. The BSE Sensex rallied 437.49 points or 0.95% to 46,444.18. The Nifty 50 index added 134.80 points or 1% to 13,601.10. Hindustan Unilever (up 2.67%), ITC (up 2.14%) and Reliance Industries (up 0.37%) advanced. The broader market rallied. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 2.40% and the BSE Small-Cap index gained 2.65%. Buyers outpaced sellers. On the BSE, 2,296 shares rose and 650 shares fell. A total of 151 shares were unchanged. COVID-19: Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 7,80,18,199 with 17,17,124 deaths. India reported 2,89,240 active cases of COVID-19 infection and 1,46,444 deaths while 96,63,382 patients have been discharged, according to the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Sensex regains 46,000 mark, Nifty above 13,450; IT stocks rally

Benchmark indices ended a volatile session with strong gains on Tuesday. The Nifty closed above the crucial 13,450 mark after slipping below that level in intraday. IT and pharma shares led the broader recovery. The S&P BSE Sensex jumped 452.73 points or 0.99% to 46,006.69. The Nifty 50 index added 137.90 points or 1.03% to 13,466.30. The Nifty opened higher at 13,373.65 today, but shortly changed its trend and hit the day s low of 13,192.90 in morning trade. After displaying some volatility, the index bounced back in afternoon trade. It extended gains and hit the day s high of 13,492.05 in late trade. In the broader market, the BSE Mid-Cap index rose 1.09% and the BSE Small-Cap index gained 0.95%.

The domestic equity benchmarks ended the session near the day s high on Wednesday, mirroring positive global shares. Barring the Nifty PSU Bank index, all the sectoral indices on the NSE ended in the green. The S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 403.29 points or 0.87% at 46,666.46. The Nifty 50 index advanced 114.85 points or 0.85% at 13,682.70. Both the indices attained record closing high levels. The Sensex hit a record high of 46,704.97 and the Nifty hit a record high of 13,692.35 in late trade. A possible approval of Moderna Inc s COVID-19 vaccine this week and progress in US stimulus talks lifted sentiment. The US Federal Reserve will issue an updated policy statement along with new economic projections on Wednesday. Traders will be watching closely for any changes to Fed view on when its benchmark policy rate might rise off zero.

Sensex, Nifty end almost flat; FMCG stocks correct

The domestic equity benchmarks ended near the flat line on Tuesday. The S&P BSE Sensex, added 9.71 points or 0.02% to 46,263.17. The Nifty 50 index added 9.70 points or 0.07% at 13,567.85. Both the indices attained record closing high levels. The Nifty opened in the red and hit the day s low of 13,447.05 in mid-morning trade. It witnessed recovery from early afternoon trade. It bounced back in mid-afternoon trade and hit the day s high of 13,589.65. After some bouts of volatility, the indices closed with minor gains. Gains were capped due to negative cues from other Asian markets as worries about increasing Covid deaths and lockdowns overshadowed optimism about the roll-out of coronavirus vaccinations. FMCG stocks corrected while metal stocks advanced.
