MORRISTOWN Morristown is turning 200 this year. St. Lawrence County Legislators on June 7 took the opportunity to commemorate the event at the full board meeting.
A resolution passed by the county officials said Morristown was officially created March 27,1821 by the State Legislature from part of the town of Oswegatchie and the first town board meeting there was held April 10.
The town has been primarily a rural farmland area with a rich and varied history which once included a ferry to Brockville, Canada, railroads, gristmills, saw mills, tanneries and Indian Root pill factory, funeral homes, schools and marinas.
