Indo-Nepal border reopens after 8 months, conditions applied

New Delhi: In view of the coronavirus, the Nepal government had closed all its borders for the movement of common people from March 24. Since Friday, orders have been issued to open 30 major borders of 77 districts of Nepal with strict conditions for common people. Deepak Paudel, the head of Nepal s Ministry of Home Affairs (Peace, Security and Crime Control Branch), has issued a letter informing that the 30 borders of Nepal, which are adjacent to India, are only given to Indian citizens and Chinese borders with China. According to the statement, Nepal has been given conditional approval for use in case of emergency of Covishield vaccine against coronavirus. The pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is providing the vaccine to several medium and low-income countries other than the Government of India in partnership with the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII). The Serum Institute is the world s largest vaccine producer. During the sixth meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission, Nepal congratulated the Indian External Affairs Ministry for achieving success in developing Covishield and Covaxin and has urged Nepal to vaccinate at the earliest.
