Melbourne, January 20: Cricket Australia on Wednesday (January 20) saluted the Indian team s resilience, courage and skill during its historic Test series win over the hosts and expressed gratitude to the BCCI for the sacrifices it made to ensure a smooth conduct of the epic contest.
A second-string Indian team, led by Ajinkya Rahane, braved all odds to defeat a full-strength Australia by three wickets at the Gabba in Brisbane to win the four-Test series 2-1 and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Tuesday (January 19) in Brisbane.

Dubai, January 20: India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and England skipper Joe Root have made considerable gains in the latest ICC men s Test player rankings after their match-winning performances in Brisbane and Galle respectively.
Left-hander Pant s unbeaten 89 on the last day in Brisbane guided India to a sensational three-wicket victory over Australia and that sees him attain a career best 13th position to become the top-ranked wicketkeeper in the batting rankings. South Africa s Quinton de Kock is the next wicketkeeper in the list in 15th position.
Root, a formerly top-ranked batsman, has returned to the top five with his highest rating points tally (738) in two years after scoring a first-innings 228 to help England win the first Test against Sri Lanka by seven wickets.

Brisbane, January 13: Australia spinner Nathan Lyon on Wednesday (January 13) said there is no room for racial abuse in sport, and Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj has set the new standard for calling out abuse of any form. The Indian team had lodged an official complaint after the crowd at the SCG racially abused pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj over the second and third day of the Sydney Test. There is no room for any racial sledges or any abuse in any type. People think they are being funny, but it can affect people in different ways. For me, cricket is the sport for all and there is no room for it at all, Lyon said in a virtual press conference.

Cheteshwar Pujara makes 6000 Test runs
Sydney, January 11: Cheteshwar Pujara on Monday (January 11) added another feather to his cap as he completed 6,000 runs in Test cricket. Pujara achieved the milestone on the final day of the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
In the 76th over of the fourth innings, Pujara smashed a boundary off Nathan Lyon and completed his 6,000 runs and a well-made fifty. Pujara and Rishabh Pant led India s run chase of 407 before both got out to Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon respectively. Pant also became the youngest wicket-keeper to score fifty-plus runs in the fourth innings of a Test match in Australia.
