Man arrested after police officer badly injured during football protests Eleanor Barlow, PA 11 May 2021, 3:51 pm A man has been arrested after a police officer suffered serious facial injuries during a protest by football fans outside Old Trafford. Greater Manchester Police said a number of officers were injured when about 1,000 protesters gathered at the Manchester United ground and about 200 outside the Lowry Hotel ahead of the team’s match against Liverpool on Sunday, May 2. On Tuesday, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding, violent disorder and burglary following a warrant at an address in Prenton, Wirral, the force said.

Wirral man, 25, arrested in connection with assault of police officer during protest A WIRRAL man has been arrested after a police officer was left with facial injuries after a football fans protest in Old Trafford, Manchester. The 25-year-old was arrested in Prenton this morning on suspicion of section 18 wounding, violent disorder and burglary following the incident on Saturday, May 2. He remains in custody for questioning. Police were aware of a planned protest at Old Trafford on Sunday May 2 and worked closely alongside partners to ensure those that attended were kept safe whilst enabling their right to peaceful protest. By late afternoon 1,000 protesters had gathered at Old Trafford and 200 separately at the Lowry Hotel in Salford.

Earlier this week, detectives leading the hunt released new images of Ege which were taken following his arrest in India in 2013 in the hope it would lead to any recent sightings being reported to police. We continue to work with the National Crime Agency and international law enforcement agencies to trace the Ege and return him to the UK. Two other men convicted of Aamir’s murder continue to serve life sentences in prison.
