meanwhile, democrats in the house also working very hard to try to iron out their differences. they had their family meeting last night to discuss where to go next. the house speaker making it clear to her members that she still wants to bring up the bipartisan infrastructure bill for a vote on the floor in the house on thursday. that s a few days later than she had initially promised. but she is urging her progressive members who have been avoiding wanting to vote on this bill at all to get behind it. she says there s still a lot of work to do on that bigger $3.5 trillion bill that many progressives are holding out for. here s what she told them yesterday in caucus. she said, quote, we are still waiting for the number because you cannot prove the design of this legislation without the number. and the president is working on that piece. he s working on that piece. she is referring there to that $3.5 trillion social safety net to expand health care, to provide paid family leave, as
shutting down. that deadline coming thursday at midnight. there is a lot of work to do still ahead in the u.s. senate. like you said, republicans united in voting against that bill to both fund the government through early december as well as increase the country s borrowing limit. that deadline coming sometime in mid-october. but the question this morning, what is chuck schumer going to do next? the majority leader has a few options. he can continue to force republicans to vote on that same piece of legislation, or he could also tear those two bills apart. republicans saying they would be willing to vote to avoid a government shutdown, to fund the government through early december or for a few weeks if schumer brought a bill to the floor that was a standalone piece of legislation. i talked to the house appropriations chairwoman last night. she told me she thought the most important thing is to make sure the government does not shut down, even if that means that democrats have to punt
you just had democrats running around in circles and acting like they never been there before and they don t know what to do with that power. i must say if they lose, it s going to be their own fault because the chaos and the end fighting. it s so embarrassing. eugene daniels, i want to bring you in here, i have to ask, they got the votes to pass reconciliation. they have to vote to pass this historic infrastructure bill. are they going to do it? while republicans work everyday to keep passing voting laws to take away the right of voters that are not going to support them. the infrastructure bill that you have nancy pelosi announcing they re going to vote on that infrastructure bill in the house
because it is partisan. and i expect that what we are going to find out, if we learn anything, as a result of the vote in the house on thursday, it will be overwhelmingly partisan. which should then counsel in favor, as you suggest, laura, that the sun and take appropriate action in response. remember, the senate is in control of the president s party, and even under existing rules, the president makes an appearance in the senate through counsel, and the first thing i would expect to happen is a properly filed motion to dismiss to end this thing laura: immediately. john, i want to get into that. we will get back to vindman, which i think jordan was getting at, the possible legal jeopardy that vindman might be facing under that statute, i think that is what he was getting to. but john, that s important, is it not? so let s say the articles of impeachment, for what? we don t know any underlying
criminality, there wasn t any in the transcript, but maybe general abuse of power, you know, stuff. so that arrives, and then mitch mcconnell, at that point, can do what? can he immediately move a motion to dismiss to the chief justice? they certainly can. look, during the clinton impeachment, there was an effort to try and have witnesses brought forward, and that was shut down. the senate has full control over how to conduct the impeachment inquiry. if this was a rank partisan thing, there is no evidence here, you know, we re going to have a vote right now to decide whether we are going to convict on the articles of impeachment, and the boat is going to be 53 53-48, because it will be partisan there, as well, in all likelihood, the american people understand that this has been a partisan hit job. you know, one of the things i found most interesting about what was leaked about vindman s testimony is the parallel it has with investor taylor s testimony from last week. vindman is compl
