minute or so. i think they re trying to say they re hoping this will lead to a diplomatic talk between these gulf states, saudi arabia, the united arab emeritz, bahrain, kuwait, other, so that they can end this embargo around qatar. but remember that this was something that they signed onto in riyadh when president trump went there. they were going to fight extremism, funding extremism and there was a tweet from this president saying that all of those countries were pointing at qatar. shannon: you mentioned the u.k. s shocking election for a lot of people. there was quite a bit of movement in the polls. we heard the president as well when asked about the election called it surprising. how much do you think it will impact our relationship, if at all, with the u.k. does it represent a swing of the pendulum in where we are with the populous movement, those
between the two states. if you check back on the schedule of george w. bush, not that long ago, may 16th, 2008, he flew from a meeting with king abdullah, in riyadh and came to israel directly to meet with shimon perez, the prime minister, to address the israeli parliament. facts do matter. and i would suggest and the president s set speeches have been really good this trip. really, they have, in riyadh and israel, and one more coming at the cultural museum. when he goes off teleprompter that s when you get into some difficulty. and it s not having any experience with this. secretary of state, by the way, experienced man in the arab world and middle east but acknowledged he had never been to israel until this flight. wow! andrea mitchell, thank you v much. we ll be getting back to andrea. it is approaching the top of the
part of the world is an unusual departure. the flight of air force one to israel from riyadh, yes, that was the first time, but not a significant breakthrough. the president and people hoped to bring back from riyadh an agreement from there that israeli flights would have flight rights. we don t believe he has been able to secure that or direct phone calls established between israel and arab world. we don t believe that has happened either. we have not heard about it. what he has done is in israel and riyadh is attack back from campaign rhetoric to more traditional bipartisan u.s. foreign policy. yes, in riyadh, he talked about the need to fight terrorism. that is no different from the other presidents who have been there particularly since 9/11 and said the same thing. in israel, he is saying a lot about peace and trying to bring all sides together talking about
in mecca in 79 and the over throw of the shaw, created a situation where the saudis and other sunnis were worried about a shiite domination and power. that is starting to look like we might be able to begin to work back from it. it would be wonderful to have this counterterrorism center for example, co-chaired by the saudis and us in riyadh.
