cuba saw significant flooding and, is just now getting power back in some areas after nearly the entire island was plunged into darkness. now this morning, is ethan s world toward tampa, residents woke up to this eerie sight. nearly all the water had receded out of tampa bay. the storm pulled all the water from the shore as it s winds whipped around, counterclockwise, before shoving it back towards land hours later. around the same time, the natural hurricane center increased their predictions for how much storm surge ian will bring. the revised estimates stand 12 to 18 feet along the coast, from inglewood to benin a beach. you can see here in the purple section on this map. you have seen waters rise to record-breaking levels throughout the day. that s naples. naples, florida, the water road six feet above the normal high tide, nearly submerging cars. in fort myers beach the storm surge has driven the water 8 to 20 feet, flooding homes, leaving some residents trapped. one fam
united states said this. this memorial day, we know the memory is still painful. of all the fallen who lost their lives during the last two decades in combat. each of them, leaving behind a family. could be anything. hard spoken by their actions. and lives, that will never be the same. the same could be said of the decades of combat that american children have faced in their classrooms, where hundreds of them have been shot and killed by mass murders. yesterday, the president and first lady brought flowers to a memorial site outside the robb elementary school in uvalde, texas. they touch the photos of the 19 dead children, and two teachers who lost their lives trying to save lives. president and the first lady attended sunday mass. as was the custom. but this time, it was in walter. in the catholic church filled with mourners. including some of the family members of the victims. as of president was leading, someone in the crowd pleaded with him to do something. president
entering the elementary school. and we know more than an hour passed between the first 911 call and when the shooter was killed. police now acknowledge that tragic mistakes were made. the decision was made that this is barricade the subject situation, there was time to retrieve the keys and wait for a tactical team with the equipment to go ahead and breach the door and take on the subject at that point. that was the decision. it was the wrong decision, period. the incident commander has been identified as uvalde school district police chief pedro pete arredondo. he made two brief statements to the press on the day of the shooting and is not spoken since. texas governor greg abbott faced questions about the praise he initially offered the first responders after the shooting and he said he was misled. i was misled. i am livid about what happened. there are people who deserve answers most. and those are the families whose lives have been destroyed. they need answers that a
purpose, to kill a lot of human beings quickly. an assault weapon is a weapon of war with no place, no place in a civil society. after back to back mass shootings, republicans are looking elsewhere for answers. just in the last two days, gop senators ted cruz and ron johnson and former president donald trump floated a laundry list of reasons for the country s mass shooting epidemic. here they are, they include video games, social media, wokeness, critical race theory, absent fathers, declining church attendance, too many doors at schools, and the list goes on and on. but one thing not on their list is the one thing that is unique to the united states of america. hundreds of millions of guns and minimal restrictions for acquiring them. to be sure, gun violence in the u.s. is a multifaceted problem that requires a multifaceted solution, but gop leaders are willing to consider every facet, except this glaring one. this debate is raging as a devastating picture emerges about tu
