memories, being a young man and how he felt suspicion simply by the fact he was african-american. and so he s going to get some very con temtemporaneous information from some of these young leaders about what it is to be young and black in america today. he s going to be talking to community leaders, religious leaders. what can be done in these individual communities to stop things from happening to reduce the number of violent confrontations between police officers and those in minority and low-income communities. and i think it s going to be something we will hear from him today. he will not come into the briefing room but we should hear something today. said the federal investigation into ferguson is continuing. what are his plans today? yeah he s going to be in atlanta. he s going to kick off what is going to be an actual tour. he s going to be making stops,
a fact where in ferguson a police department governing a majority african-american community with only two or three police officers on the force, that should be something that should have been done a long time ago. to have a dialogue long before you have an incident that took place is what s important. so i think this should be a wake-up call for all of us throughout this country to make sure this kind of scenario does not take place again. and, you know, there should be special training. i know that we re going through that again in new york. i would hope the attorney general is going to do a complete review on the practices that police departments have across america. so we don t continually have to come back and see where unarmed african-american unarmed hispanic person is being again shot because somebody is afraid of them or something of that nature. that just seems to be too many people have died that way. and there s also the issue of rep resensation.
putting democrats in a prime position to pick up a ninth senate seat. with me on the phone from baton rouge, the editor and publisher of l.a. politics.com. jerry, good morning. good morning, it s good to be here. likewise. senator landrieu has been virtually abandoned by national democrats. when you see her on the trail, how s her campaign doing? it really you know for the battle for the bayou, bill cassidy is standing on clear ground. mary landrieu is definitely in the marshes, trudging along. the math is less than promising. the polls we ve seen so far have her trailing anywhere from 9 to 21 points. she only carried 18% of the white vote in the primary. that s a large hurdle to get over. but, you know, the campaign says they see it involves this 30/30 strategy where they get 30% of the total vote to be african-american and they pick up 30% of the white vote. those numbers can go up or down either way but they have to add
