from everything i can understand the congressman said he talked with the secretary earlier today. they have been nothing but supportive and helpful. have you spoken with the families? we have not. that s that s still obviously the department of defense is in charge of that at this point in time. what has been the reaction from the white house? i ll let andy talk to that. i will say, i contacted the white house very soon after the incident. i then got proactively called several times from the white house. they have been very concerned and in touch. matter of fact during my press conference today, i got off and i saw that there were four calls from the private number which, which, was them. and i got another call. and the president has been getting constantly briefed about this. and i know that they are completely in touch with what is going on in chattanooga.
smith. you have an update from the tennessee governor. the governor in tennessee is speaking to the chattanooga times free press newspaper. he said the killings as he put them today, in chattanooga were sickening. the local paper now put a write-through together. sort of confirming what we ve been reporting here that this began at the first recruiting center an lee highway. according to the reporting of the times free press the person shot in the back of the leg there was a man who was a recruit who was there to join the navy. it s a place where you fill out paperwork and that sort of thing. according to all the reporting that we have now, he did not even realize he had been shot. someone looking at him goes you re bleeding out of your leg or something to that effect and he got it checked on. in very good shape and not having any problems. it was the second location along the tennessee riverpark off amnicola highway, on the left-hand side the left location there on your screen th
uaw in chattanooga. there are rumors about the koch brothers, for example. so we have the possibility here that not only could we have political officials, the governor, the u.s. senator, but also people like grover norquist sitting down, under oath, having to answer questions who is providing money and why. so that in and of itself could be interesting to watch. could this evolve to an investigation that would do maybe even some forensic, to see what s on everybody s computer? i mean how do we know everybody s going to be forthcoming with these documents because they are trying to connect the dots on exactly what kind of activity and what kind of deals were cut before the vote? what about that? certainly no hint of any forensic examination that could come in to play. certainly you have the power of a subpoena. you have people being called to testify. you have the power of a subpoena
jobs from coming to her state if people are actually organizing for better benefits. it s really stunning. and i just don t know who these people represent, ari. but brad, there is a new fish here, because we had governor perry s sound earlier in the program. and one of the things he said, i want to be clear and fair about this, he said look, if companies want to pay more, they can do that. that s a response to regulating a minimum wage. that strikes me, tell me what you think, that strikes me as different than coming out and saying not let the market decide, but if a company does want to work with unions, which by the way is a business decision, they re no longer welcome. that s exactly right. what is stung here is the republican party is the party of the free market. but they re trying to manipulate the market. i mean, you have government officials, senator, governors, discouraging companies from even talking about unionizing. like in chattanooga. you had a company there that was
this reporter: harris, the unight the autoworkers influence is decloining and the ua w admitted that the union has no long- term future if they don t orgnoise outside of the three major autocompanies and that is why the vote last night was so big. the chattanooga plant was seen as the ua w s best chance to gain traction with the foreign autoplants. after three days, they voted against joining the union. friday night s vote is a major win for republicans like senator croaker of tennessee who blamed the union for bankruptcying the automakers in detroit. he was kroushl in bringing volks wagop in chattanooga.
