Nearly 36K NorMin students get P102 7-M educational aid

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY-The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Northern Mindanao region (DSWD-10) was able to distribute a total of PHP102,696,000 worth of educational assistance to qualified students. In an interview on Sunday, Roshiel Galia, DSWD-10 Information Officer, said this was the data tallied from the six Saturdays of distribution from Aug. 20 to Sept. 24, with total beneficiaries of35,849. Galia said the educational assistance was placed under theAssistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) which is a regular program of DSWD. "Sec. (Erwin) Tulfo (during his term) has mainstreamed the program into massive payouts on Saturdays," she said. BARBARA, Pangasinan - The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) distributed on Wednesday 70 water pumps and engine sets to several farmers' associations in the province to mitigate the effects of climate change in their production. NIA Pangasinan division manager Engr. Gertrudes Viado, in her speech during the turn-over ceremony, said the equipment was given for free to the farmers to augment water shortage in some rain-fed areas of the province. She said they could utilize the equipment for 25 years with proper maintenance. "NIA gives water pumps and engine sets because of climate change. Johana Vi Gasga, DOLE-Bicol spokesperson, in an interview, said the assistance is a strategic response to the social problem and will help prevent and eliminate child labor. "Parents of child laborers are among the priority beneficiaries under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP). Under the guidelines of the DILEEP, beneficiaries should not allow their children to engage in child labor.
