The lawyer is one of the 37 people who have sent legal notices to bdnews24.com, asking the news publisher to remove old reports on HBM Iqbal and his family. Both the lawyer and his aggrieved client in Sylhet say they are unaware of the incident, let alone sending the notice.
The notice bears the signature of Md Moazzem Hossain Chowdhury, a lawyer of Sylhet Bar Association. The notice written on his letterhead was served on behalf of Harunur Rashid on Feb 9 to four senior editors of bdnews24.com.

The journalist association of Titumir College has urged the government to take “proper steps” against those who put “unethical” pressure on bdnews24.com through dozens of legal notices demanding the removal of old reports. );

The pressure from the “evil forces” will not only call into question the government’s sincerity to establish independent media, but it will also hamper the government effort to strengthen democracy, BFUJ President Molla Jalal and Acting Secretary General Abdul Majid said in a statement on Wednesday.

Dhaka University Journalists Association or DUJA has expressed concern over the threats bdnews24.com is facing through legal notices demanding removal of old reports. );

Describing the incident as a “grave threat to the freedom of the media”, DUJA President Mehedi Hasan and General Secretary Sajjadul Kabir in a statement on Friday observed bdnews24.com had published the reports following due process.
But it is facing pressure to remove those in the name of “protecting the business interests” of an influential person, the association said.
DUJA demanded an end to “such heinous action” in order to protect the interests of the media.
