First day first shot for young adults
MUMBAI: The first day of the Covid-19 vaccination drive for the 18-44 age-group got off to a soft start in Maharashtra on Saturday, with 11,492 getting the shot in 26 districts. Of these, 992 recipients were from Mumbai.
The ‘token’ round (Maharashtra has been vaccinating around 3 lakh a day on an average before the vaccine stockout earlier in the week) was held because chief minister Uddhav Thackeray wanted the induction of the 18-44 age-group – the biggest section in the state with comprising 6.5 crore people into the vaccine drive to coincide with Maharashtra Day, the state’s foundation day, on May 1.
