money over the years. john s been a loser a long time. we know that. he was disbarred and he went to prison. let me ask you a bigger question now, robert. probably the biggest question i can come up with right here in new york. does trump think he s beaten this rap? he knows in terms of the mueller report yeah. he s not going to face immediate charges or any kind of federal prosecution. but he does not believe that he s totally beaten the rap politically because he looks at what happened in 2018, suburban voters do have questions about his conduct. and the questions about his conduct will continue to linger as long as the democrats continue to investigate. but the question is, he thinks the democrats in his mind when you talk to top white house officials may go too far. that s why he s almost baiting them with impeachment. but he doesn t like the scrutiny of his finances. he doesn t like the scrutiny of his conduct. but he also thinks he can make them a target if they go down
like jerry nadler have said recently, they support impeachment inquiry, which is not launching impeachment proceedings but an inquiry that could lead to impeachment. what can be gained from that? it comes down to a lot of the distinction between the political considerations like daniel noted. the reality that a lot of the country doesn t support impeachment and doing legitimate congressional oversight. what nancy pelosi brought up this week, which is interesting because i don t think she s mentioned it before, part of the reason they want to pursue the investigation path instead of impeachment path as of now, in the event of impeachment, they want to have as iron clad a case against the president as possible because there is a
for investigation is impeachment. and so you can say and the courts would respect if you said we need this information to carry out our oversight responsibilities. and among them, as impeachment, it doesn t mean you re going on an impeachment path. but it means if you had the information, you might. and is that an argument you re prepared to make before the courts, to say to the courts we may impeach, therefore this is what we need? well, no, we hope we don t have to do that. we hope that they would respect their oath of office and respect the separation of powers. just to say that what that letter came from the white house is a joke. beneath the dignity of the presidency of the united states. in defiance of our constitution. shame on them. the speaker there saying essentially we don t have to hold impeachment hearings to letly get information to help us decide whether or not to impeach. so democrats may ultimately have a political decision to make

is correct that the democrats want to impeach this president. there s no doubt they want to do it, but they don t want to they re trying to find some way to impeach him. their constrained by what they find and they re also constrained by the calendar. because we re already engaged in a presidential election. if you d begin the impeachment process in the middle of a presidential election, i think there are going to be many american voters including many independents who are going to say, let us vote. let us have a say here. we didn t put the democrats in the house to impeach. we didn t put them we put them as a check and put them to protect our pre-existing conditions. that s why the house was elected. let us vote. and so there, too, if they go down this impeachment path, prior to election day 2020, they face political jeopardy. yeah, and i think by focusing on the word and the process of impeachment, we re really kind of missing the point here, because what has to be served
