A bid to build a 125 metre high wind turbine near Neilston has been rejected after planners warned it would have a “significant” detrimental impact on the landscape. Officials at East Renfrewshire Council recommended the application was turned down as the “scale and design of the proposed turbine” were considered “well beyond what the local area can accommodate”.
Planning permission has been refused by An Bord Pleanála for the construction of eight wind turbines near Glenties. The planning body rejected an appeal from Cuilfeach Teoranta over the controversial proposed development, which was the subject of 37 objections.

Historical preservation groups in Newport and Block Island have filed suit against the federal government over the approval of two large offshore wind farms in the ocean waters off Rhode Island, arguing that the projects' towering turbines would ruin views from the Newport mansions, the Southeast Lighthouse and other historic sites. The Preservation Society of Newport County, which owns 11 historic properties, and the Southeast Lighthouse Foundation on Block Island filed appeals this week of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s approval of the South Fork Wind Farm and Revolution Wind.
The Southeast Lighthouse Foundation (SELF), which owns and manages Block Island’s most iconic historic structure and New England’s highest lighthouse, appealed the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM)’s permitting decisions for two of the massive offshore wind farms planned by Danish owned energy behemoth Ørsted. The projects are South Fork Wind and Revolution Wind. The press release accompanying the lawsuit is provided below. The petition filed with the court can be downloaded from the document links on this page.
