Imo lawmakers approve N332 8bn budget for 2021 fiscal year

Punch Newspapers Sections Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri The Imo State Assembly on Monday approved a budget of N332.831 billion for the 2021 fiscal year. This figure excludes the Consolidated Revenue Fund Charge of N13.3bn making it a total of N346.1bn. The passage of the budget came just four working days after it was presented by the state governor, Hope Uzodinma. He presented the budget for consideration and approval on Wednesday last week. The approval was sequel to the adoption of the report presented by the House Committee on Appropriations by a committee of the whole chaired by the Speaker, Paul Emeziem, during a special session.

Imo Assembly begins probe of impeached speaker

Punch Newspapers Sections Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri The Imo State Assembly on Wednesday started a probe of the immediate past Speaker of the House, Collins Chiji, who was earlier impeached by his colleagues over alleged financial recklessness, incompetence and sabotage. He was removed from office in November. The Assembly resolved to audit the financial records of the legislature beginning from June 2019 to November 2020. At the plenary on Wednesday, former minority leader, Ekene Nnodimele, who represents Orsu state constituency, moved a motion for the probe. Nnodimele, who also moved the motion for Chiji’s impeachment in November, said the probe was necessary so as to instill the culture of transparency and accountability in the Assembly.
