The US is recommending a pause in administration of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine to investigate reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.
In a joint statement Tuesday, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said it was investigating clots in six women in the days after vaccination, in combination with reduced platelet counts. More than 6.8 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered in the US.

US health officials called for an immediate pause in use of Johnson & Johnsonâs single-dose Covid-19 vaccine after six women who received it developed a rare and severe form of blood clotting.
The decision comes at a crucial juncture in the US vaccination effort, which has been gaining speed in recent weeks at the same time that a worsening outbreak driven by coronavirus variants is gripping the upper Midwest. And it is likely to heighten worry about vaccines around the world after similar issues caused delays in distribution of AstraZeneca Plcâs shot.
