could this be a win-win for him either way? well, he s the ultimate political survivor. everyone writes him off and he keeps going. he s definitely going to use immigration as one of his landmark major issues. but as julia mentioned, there are a lot of suburban voters who they know federal employees or are federal employees turned off by this mess. republicans control every lever of government right now. they still do until january 3rd, yet they can t keep the government open. and i think there is some exhaustion with the immigration topic. some of the people they use to make their point on immigration, remember, that mollie tibbetts case in the midwest. the parents, there s a big washington post story that the parents brought in a a
elizabeth warren and called wacky jackie with pocahontas campaigning in your state. can you believe that? this is a president that just actually rode into town into las vegas amid the chaos that is happening down on the border and while she s children are still separated from their families he held a fund-raiser for dean heller and corey lewandowski who was obviously was highly criticized for his comments when he said, wamp-wamp when a 10-year-old girl with down syndrome was separated from her parents. he s avoided the immigration topic here the other night but here so far today he s been going all in. i do want to note dean heller, three years ago this vulnerable republican, richard, actually returned his campaign donation that donald trump gave him. today donald trump was holding a fund-raiser with dean heller. richard. yeah, dean heller voting 90%
way through mexico and they were trying to help us? they do nothing for us. the caravan was moving on to the u.s. border, and he said they were acting very strongly, and i think he even said the u.s. should do similar things in protecting its own border. going back in. the president returning to the immigration topic. let s listen. for the federal crime of illegal entry. those are the only two options. totally open borders or criminal prosecution for lawbreaking. and you want to be able to do that. we don t want people pouring into our country. we want them to come in through the process, through the legal system, and we want ultimately a merit-based system where people come in based on merit.
connell: you would think after all we were through, immigration topic in the news, it would be daca, dreamers the hold-up, maybe it s something else. what s going on? one of the things that s popped up recently is that the republicans who are trying to figure out a way to solve the daca issue, the dreamers issue the legal immigration is coming into the equation, meaning that they in exchange for creating possibly a new visa program for the dreamers, for the kids who were brought to the united states illegally as children that they would take some of those visas from the diversity lottery program and family-base migration. now, these are legal forms of immigration but the administration and some republicans have looked at wanting to restrict some of the numbers and so they want to keep immigration levels the same and so by doing that, they want to look at legal immigration numbers.
we ll see how it goes. the president has a lot on the line today. tucker: people are emotional. except right here. tucker: you are always pictures of cool. in the chamber, are democratic leaders concerned about outburst. nancy pelosi gave a speech that said don t do it and stay in line and don t have an outburst and we may see that. as you are right, tensions are high and emotions are high and especially along the partisan lines. obviously the immigration topic is the hottest one. and looking through what we have so far of the speech, the president will try to bring people together and the future that everybody should have and the opportunity to thrive in america. it looks so far, that he s trying to give a speech that is not controversial. i talked to bill bennett
