Ex-homeland security chiefs blast Cornyn for ‘hostage-taking’ in bid to delay Biden pick over immigration

WASHINGTON Former homeland security secretaries from both parties blasted Sen. John Cornyn on Wednesday for trying to stall President Joe Biden’s nominee for the post, accusing him of endangering Americans in his pursuit of leverage over immigration policy.
“It is irresponsible and unconscionable. … There’s no justification for delaying this,” said Michael Chertoff, who ran the department under George W. Bush, a Republican and former Texas governor.
