Posting on Twitter, she reshared an open letter written by the Shadow Immigration Minister, Holly Lynch, as she too weighed in on the government’s decision to continue to house refugees in sub-standard conditions.

Border Force detained 49 migrants at Dover after they attempted to cross the English Channel in three boats on Saturday - taking the number of arrivals this year up to 285. In 2016, David Cameron’s government amended the Dublin Regulation, making it a legal requirement for ministers to grant asylum to children arriving in the UK. Advert 10 Chris Philp, the minister for Immigration Compliance, said protecting vulnerable children is a ‘key priority’ and that the Home Office takes its responsibility for the welfare of children ‘very seriously’, however, it was no longer bound to give them asylum.

One, by the charity Freedom from Torture, got 11,909 online signatures by 5pm today, having gained more than 8,500 a few hours after being set up yesterday. Campaigners want the two decommissioned sites to no longer house asylum seekers because they insist the conditions are inhumane.
