SHADOW WOMENS and Equalities Minister Marsha de Cordova has publicly expressed her support for the rehousing of asylum seekers living in âinhumane and unsafeâ accommodation.
Posting on Twitter, she reshared an open letter written by the Shadow Immigration Minister, Holly Lynch, as she too weighed in on the governmentâs decision to continue to house refugees in sub-standard conditions.
Border Force detained 49 migrants at Dover after they attempted to cross the English Channel in three boats on Saturday - taking the number of arrivals this year up to 285.
Six men were initially caught making the crossing in a brand new grey, yellow and blue rigid hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) amid calm and mild conditions in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two more crossings quickly followed, carrying 43 people from France to Britain.

Child Refugees With No Family In UK Will No Longer Be Given Sanctuary

Unaccompanied child refugees who do not have family in the UK will no longer be given sanctuary, the government has said.
In 2016, David Cameron’s government amended the Dublin Regulation, making it a legal requirement for ministers to grant asylum to children arriving in the UK.

Chris Philp, the minister for Immigration Compliance, said protecting vulnerable children is a ‘key priority’ and that the Home Office takes its responsibility for the welfare of children ‘very seriously’, however, it was no longer bound to give them asylum.
Petitions demand closure of Napier Barracks, Folkestone, to asylum seekers

Petitions calling for army barracks holding asylum seekers to close amassed nearly 17,000 names.
One, by the charity Freedom from Torture, got 11,909 online signatures by 5pm today, having gained more than 8,500 a few hours after being set up yesterday.

Campaigners want the two decommissioned sites to no longer house asylum seekers because they insist the conditions are inhumane.
