Jigawa Golden Stars produced arguably the major talking point of matchday 4 in the Nigeria Profesional Football League today with a stunning 3-1 victory over Abia Warriors in Aba.
Before action commenced, the odds favoured Abia Warriors who were winless in three matches to cruise past the lowly rated Jigawa Golden Stars.
Coach Imama Amapakabo’s team started well, taking the lead early in the 7th minute when Arit Archibong’s header found the net with an assist from Nzube Anaezemba. It was the sort of start the Warriors wanted but their joy was short-lived as the visiting team found their way back into the contest with a scrambled goal scored by Olasunkanmi Quadri in the 24th minute.

In the 8th minute, Markson Ojobo and Nzube Anaezemba combined well to open scoring, but the Rivers United backline were alert to avert danger.
Not deterred by the resolute defence, Adeleke Adekunle, in the 12th minute, failed to utilise the goal scoring opportunity.
Two minutes later, Warriors defender, Ojobo was at alert to prevent Rivers’ Fortune Omoniwari from scoring.
However, in the 20th minute, all efforts to stop in-form Omoniwari failed as he neatly placed the ball into the bottom right corner beyond the outstretched hands of Warriors goalkeeper, Ojo Olorunleke, to score his second goal of the season.
Omoniwari has now scored three consecutive goals – Bloemfontein Celtic, Enugu Rangers and now, Abia Warriors.

Fortune Omoniwari was the hero as Rivers United defeated Abia Warriors 1-0 in their week two fixture of the 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, on Saturday.
Omoniwari scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, placing the ball into the bottom right corner beyond the outstretched hands of Olorunleke Ojo, in goal for Warriors.
Warriors dominated the game but were unable to break the formidable defence of Rivers with goalkeeper Abiodun Akande in exceptional form.
The hosts had an appeal for a penalty turned down after giant midfielder Tekena Garando went down in the box in the 22nd minute.
