COVID-19 vaccine: Jacksonville youths promote access to vaccine shots

Floridians as young as 16 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine as of Monday. Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only one approved for 16- and 17-year-olds. All of the vaccines available right now Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are approved for those 18 and older. As recently as the beginning of March, eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine among the general public was limited to adults 65 or older. Anyone under 18 receiving a vaccine will need to find a vaccine site that carries the Pfizer version of the vaccine. Currently, federal-run sites carry Moderna and sometimes Johnson & Johnson. The Regency state-run site confirmed Friday that it would carry the Pfizer vaccine and would have parent/guardian consent forms on-site. Privately run sites like CVS and Walmart may also carry Pfizer, but it depends on the location. Parents and guardians are advised to check with specific sites ahead of time.
