CALGARY Can the arrival of a marquee goalie and a redistribution of the goalscoring load finally produce an extended playoff run for the Calgary Flames? The Flames have exited the first round of playoffs in mortifying fashion three of the last four years, and missed the post-season altogether in 2018. It s time for people to look at us as a serious contender throughout the league, Flames winger Matthew Tkachuk said. We have to be looked at as one of those teams that is a contender each and every season and I think we have to start proving that this year.

With less than a handful of trips to Eastern Canada every year, it’d be tough to fault Canadiens, Leafs, and Senators fans if they hit up HockeyDB when they look at the current Calgary Flames roster.
As the Flames embark on a season that’ll see them play an unprecedented 27 times against those teams, here are six under-the-radar Calgary players that Eastern Canadian hockey fans should get to know. There’s a good chance they’ll have a significant impact on how things unfold in the North Division.

CALGARY Juuso Valimaki was all ready to play a large part on the Calgary Flames defence in the 2019-20 season but all that changed when he suffered a major knee injury during training. The 22-year-old was sidelined for the entire season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He admits there were some tough times during rehab and he wasn’t sure when he’d be able to get back to playing again. “There has been days or hours where you’ve been kind of thinking that am I ever going to stay healthy for a long time or how is it going to go and when am I going to get back playing?” Valimaki said in an interview with CTV News.
