Eligible mothers in the state previously only received 60 days of coverage. The governor’s office announced the rule change on Tuesday. Gov. J.B. Pritzker said that a waiver submitted by the state to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) was approved recently.     Officials from the Illinois Department of Public Health cite the racial disparity in birth outcomes between Black and white mothers as reason for the extension. A 2019 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that Black and Indigenous American women in America are two to three times more likely to die during childbirth. Reasons for the disparities include a lack of access to health care due to financial constraints and other social determinants.

Feb. 3, 2021: Springfield, Ill., woman, Amber L. Bolen, 41, with fraud in connection with major disaster or emergency benefits available through the Small Business Administration. The indictment alleges that in July 2020, Bolen, of the 1900 block of Gregory Ct., submitted an application for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan for a business, known as amber bolen, which did not exist. The indictment alleges that Bolen made false representations on the loan application including that she owned the business, listed at the same address as her residential address, since 2013; that it was engaged in the transportation industry; and, that the business employed 11 people and had gross revenues of more than
