DeKALB – Illinois State Police Col. David Byrd has been named DeKalb’s newest police chief for the DeKalb Police Department. Byrd will also become the city’s first Black police chief in its 135-year history.
“As soon as I put on that uniform, it’s time to go and I’ll be ready, so thank you for the opportunity,” Byrd said at Monday’s City Council meeting.
Byrd is a 31-year veteran of the Illinois State Police and was appointed as the deputy director for the Division of Patrol of the Illinois State Police in August 2020. Byrd has held several positions over the years including assistant deputy director for the Office of the Director, north region commander and commander of District Chicago.
The e-learning instructors are doing a great job teaching Grand Theft Auto. Las Vegas is opening their schools due to the number of suicides by junior high/high schoolers over the past year in the district. Hopefully the CTU is reading the tea leaves. Alot less support from their own members this go-round then in 2019 to strike.
Sad and scary time to live in Chicago.
Unusually high amount of empty phrases and buzz words from Chicago Alderman on this subject. Creating a task force to study the issue and make recommendations can’t be far away

Exasperated aldermen and their terrified constituents demanded Friday that police and prosecutors consider any and all solutions to stop an avalanche of carjackings in Chicago that has people afraid to drive or get into a ride-share.
“I’ve never seen us more united over an issue,” Lincoln Park Ald. Michele Smith (43
rd) said.
More police, surveillance cameras and license plate readers; brighter street lights; one-way streets and jersey barriers to cut off escape routes were some of the suggestions made.
Aldermen also demanded dedicated use of the Chicago Police Department’s sidelined second helicopter, stricter laws and tougher sentencing to crack the whip on “extremely dangerous, unbelievably emboldened” juvenile offenders who ignore police directives.
