If an employee can establish a direct causal connection to its exposure to COVID-19 via its workplace, the employee may now have a valid claim for workers’ compensation coverage.
On April 13, 2020, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) established an emergency rule amending the Illinois Administrative Code for workers’ compensation hearings that created a rebuttable presumption for workers sickened with COVID-19 who work in “critical” industries as defined in the Illinois Stay Home Order, as well as those workers who are first responders. The emergency rule expanded the definition of COVID-19 “First Responder” or “Front-Line Worker” to a broad category of workers, and would have applied to virtually all businesses that are permitted to remain open under the Illinois Stay Home Order. IDNR Announces Award of Snowmobile Trail Grant Funding
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced $118,500 in grant funding that will allow for the operation and maintenance of snowmobile trails in the state through the Illinois Snowmobile Trail Establishment Fund (STEF).
STEF grant funds are being awarded to the Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs (IASC) in the amount of $118,500 for snowmobile trail insurance, purchase of a new snowmobile trail groomer, and snowmobile trail maintenance.
The STEF program provides financial aid to eligible private snowmobile clubs/organizations in Illinois (as noted in Section 3020.10 of the Illinois Administrative Code) for the purpose of assisting them in the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of snowmobile trails and facilities on public lands, designated roadways, or private land opened to such use. A new rule that requires “culturally responsive teaching and leading” standards to be incorporated in all Illinois teacher preparation programs will take effect in 2025, because the Illinois General Assembly’s Joint Committee on Administrative Rules voted to approve the proposed rule on Feb. 17. Eight of the committee’s 12 members would have needed to vote to suspend the rule to prevent its implementation, and only the six Republican members voted to do so.
