A complaint filed by a former village employee led to the probe which has left the department without a chief Tom Pedersen had held the position since 2019 and one of its firefighters, Mike Conover.
The village Thursday morning denied a request for a copy of the complaint filed under the Freedom of Information Act on the basis that there is an investigation in progress. The Times Telegram has requested an opinion on the denial from the state Committee on Open Government.
Three deputy chiefs are currently in charge of the fire department, according to the mayor, and the village board approved a memorandum of understanding with the city of Little Falls during its March 13 meeting to have Little Falls Fire Chief Rob Parese assist the department on a part-time basis in exchange for Ilion Village Treasurer Marijo Rice helping the acting treasurer in Little Falls.

The Village of Ilion entered into a shared services agreement with the city of Little Falls.

ILION, N.Y. - The Village of Ilion entered into a shared services agreement with the city of Little Falls. The agreement would mean Little Falls Fire Chief Rob Parese would serve temporarily as Ilion s Fire Chief, 2 times a week. The agreement also means that Ilion s treasurer will help out the Little Falls Treasurer.
Early in the meeting before the vote, the Village Board went into an executive session which was closed to the public to discuss a personnel matter.
The new names and brand identities will effectively address their organizational evolution and position them for future opportunities, according to a statement released by the organizations. It adds that they are still committed to their community roots, which was reflected in recent board decisions to depart from the YMCA’s national franchise.
“While it’s never easy to say goodbye to a long-term relationship, a recent shift to consolidate small-town facilities into regional organizations in an effort to maximize efficiencies is incongruent with our fundamental reason for being, said Anthony, DeLuca, executive director of both Youth & Family Centers. We realize that the impact and effectiveness we’ve had over the years is directly related to the fact that we are independent and local. The decision of both boards ensures that the facilities will continue to operate as distinct organizations with the ability to keep operating decisions that affect our local communities
