Ile-aux-Tourtes bridge reopens Saturday morning

Ile-aux-Tourtes bridge to fully reopen Saturday morning

Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge could re-open sooner than expected

MONTREAL The complete re-opening of the Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge could happen sooner than expected. On Sunday, the Quebec Transport Ministry confirmed that two lanes in each direction will re-open as scheduled on Monday at 5 a.m., while the full three lanes in each direction, initially set to re-open on June 21, could be moved forward. Minister Francois Bonnardel said the “reinforcement work is progressing faster than anticipated.” “The re-opening of a second lane per direction as of Monday morning is very good news. However, I invite road users to continue planning their trips and to favour teleworking and public transport when possible,” he said.

One lane in each direction set to open on Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge starting Friday

MONTREAL Those commuters on either side of the Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge got some welcome news Thursday when they learned a lane will be reopened in each direction on the heavily trafficked bridge. Minister of Transport Francois Bonnardel and Minister Responsible for the Montreal region Chantal Rouleau announced that as of 5 a.m. Friday, one lane will be safe to drive in each direction. The work done in the last few days allows for a safe partial reopening for all types of vehicles, read a news release from the transport ministry. The MTQ is still advising road users to avoid the area if possible as significant traffic congestion is expected particularly during morning and evening rush hours.

Drivers say they ll have anxiety on old Ile-aux-Tourtes and want new bridge sped up

MONTREAL  West Islanders, and many others, are in a traffic nightmare. After the emergency closure of Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge, they re using the train, ferry and highways 20 and 30 for workarounds. The bridge is scheduled to start slowly reopening next week, but in many people s minds, that won t fix the underlying problems, they say.  Now citizens, and local leaders, are pushing the province to move up its scheduled construction of a brand-new bridge instead of focusing on repairs to the old one. It gives me a bit of anxiety, to be perfectly frank, about what s really going on, said one driver named Tasha on Wednesday. What s really wrong with that thing?
