The Ikorodu Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) during its law week titled: “Prompt, Efficient and Effective Administration of Justice at All Times”, lectured by Hon. Justice (Dr.) Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi (Rtd) and guest speakers Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Law at the University of Lagos, held at Ikorodu Town Hall main auditorium.
The speakers discussed the failures of the justice system in place to deliver prompt administration of justice, which only encourages impunity that translate to lack of confidence in the justice system resulting in self-help. “It is unfortunate that the standard is not efficient in Nigeria”.

The Federal Government’s criticism of Transparency International (TI) over the country’s poor ranking in the latest Corruption Perception Index notwithstanding, some legal practitioners are worried by the country’s worsening anti-corruption credentials, an ugly development, which they want all and sundry to join forces to tackle.
In the latest ranking, Nigeria dropped three places, and also garnered lower scores in a number of areas than the 2019 record. This indicates that corruption is perceived to have worsened in the country within the period under review. Consequently, a jolted Federal Government accused the Berlin, Germany-based outfit of releasing “sensational and baseless rating on Nigeria and the fight against corruption.”
COVID-19 resurgence: Lawyers urge judiciary to embrace virtual proceedings

Some lawyers in Lagos on Wednesday urged the judiciary to fully implement virtual court sitting as a strategy to control the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.
In interviews with the Newsmen in Lagos, the lawyers regretted that the judiciary abandoned virtual court proceedings when COVID-19-induced restrictions were eased.
A former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Ikorodu Branch, Mr Bayo Akinlade, said that virtual court proceedings had not impacted justice delivery as it should.
According to Akinlade, virtual or remote court sitting is still a concept that is `hanging out’ there.
