Traders and other stakeholders at the busy Oyinlola market, FESTAC Town, Lagos State, are presently counting their losses following the demolition of the market on Saturday.
Stakeholders in the market said it was selfish and insensitive for the Chairman of the Local Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Valentine Buraimoh, to order a demolition without prior notice to the traders.

There was tension on Saturday when officials of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area stormed the Oyinlola Olorunda Market with armed policemen and used a caterpillar to demolish buildings, including shops, belonging to traders in the market.
The officials, who reportedly acted on the order of the Chairman of the council, Valentine Buraimoh, were said to have demolished the property without notifying the market leadership and traders.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the policemen allegedly shot into the air to scare and prevent traders from removing their goods from the shops, causing losses running into millions of naira.

Festac residents and traders at the Olorunda Oyinlola Market on 23 Road, Festac Town, Lagos have berated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for giving the go-ahead on the demolition of the market by officials of the Amuwo Odofin Local Government under the supervision of armed soldiers.
Speaking, one of the traders who is also an owner of the structures pleaded anonymity said: “This is devastating, regrettably we sent the urgent appeal to the Governor to intervene in the matter by preventing the Council Chairman Mr Valentine Buraimoh and his officers from carrying out the threat of pulling down the entire market but it appears it fell on deaf ears.

Reports reaching BreakingTimes Indicate that there is an ongoing demolition at the Olorunda Oyinlola Market on 23 Road, Festac Town, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos State.
It was gathered that the traders were not given any prior notice of the demolition. They were only notified that the market had been sold to a private company.
The traders were in the process of negotiating for more time so they could sell off or clear their goods.
It was also learnt that some of the traders just renewed their rent and some have even travelled for the Christmas holidays.
