FAISALABAD:
Technology transfer with easy and duty-free access to American markets is a must in a bid to achieve a quantum jump in bilateral trade and in this connection serious efforts are being made by both sides, said US Consul General in Lahore Catherine Rodriguez.
Speaking at a Zoom meeting with Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Hafiz Ihtasham Javed, she said that some American investors were exploring opportunities to assemble electric vehicles (EV) in Pakistan.
FDA to Launch New Master Plan for Faisalabad
Divisional Commissioner, Saqib Mannan, has announced that the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) is finalizing the draft of a new master plan for Faisalabad that will be introduced on 23 March.
While addressing the local business community at the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), Mannan said that the last master plan of Faisalabad had been announced in 1988, and the new one will cover the development-related planning of Faisalabad for the next 20 years.
“At that time, the urban population was only a few lacs,” he said and added that the situation has been completely altered over the last five years and requires a new master plan.

Businessmen have hailed the withdrawal of 5% regulatory duty on the import of cotton yarn and stressed that it will help enhance value-added goods export from the country. In a statement on Wednesday, Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Engineer Hafiz Ihtasham Javed said that the government was taking effective steps on all fronts to create business friendly atmosphere and enhance national exports. “Textile exporters are anticipating a shortage of industrial input due to falling cotton production in the country,” he said. “Cotton crop has been severely damaged by torrential rains this year.” It was estimated that the cotton harvest would fall in the range of 6.5 to 8 million bales, he added.
