“You grow up, and you realise that’s not normal,” Brown said. “By the age of 10 I had experienced every women’s refuge home in Christchurch. we moved down from Auckland when I was 3.” When he was 10, Brown got his hair cut at a barber for the first time, asking the barber to make him ‘’look like The Rock’’. He left the chair that day feeling important and ‘seen’ for the first time. At 15, he left home, moving into a home with other young boys who were ‘broken’. “It was full of boys like me, broken and trying to get their lives straight.”
